Important Announcements

Release of the Notice of Recommendations for March 2013 CIHR OOGP applications has been delayed in comparison to prior competitions. However, we have been informed by CIHR that the Notice of Recommendation should be available to applicants by the end of the day on Tuesday, June 18.  Consequently, the deadline for Intent to Participate in Feedback Debrief for September 2013 CIHR OOGP has been extended to Monday, June 24. The March 2013 CIHR OOGP Notice of Decision is scheduled for release on June 28, 2013.


Call for Abstracts

You are invited to submit an abstract to the 27th Annual Margaret Scott Wright Research and Innovation Day.

13th Annual Thinking Qualitatively Workshop Series

This four day interdisciplinary educational series has been held annually for over a decade now and is aimed at participants from all academic disciplines and for individuals at all stages of their research career. Individuals conducting research in universities and colleges and/or professional settings (e.g., libraries; hospitals; government agencies) are welcome to attend.

TQ allows participants to engage with experts in qualitative inquiry and learn about specific methods, techniques and approaches to qualitative research.

The academic program consists of four days of hands-on workshops that include such topics as:

  • Grounded Theory
  • Interpretive Description
  • Phenomenology
  • Ethnography
  • Narrative Inquiry

12th Annual Advances in Qualitative Methods (AQM) Conference

SSHRC Partnership Development Grants: Lessons Learned & Lessons we are Learning

In 2010 an international research partnership from Canada (U Alberta & Brock University) and Tanzania applied for, and were awarded, a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant. Dr. Elaine Simmt (principal investigator) & Dr. Florence Glanfield (co-applicant), Faculty of Education, were a part of the partnership. Elaine and Florence will share what they’ve learned about developing a proposal and the complexities implementing the plans once the proposal was funded.

SSHRC Two-Day Writing Retreat at Devonian Botanic Garden

This two-day writing retreat is intended for full-time faculty who are preparing a SSHRC grant application. Working in the inspirational setting of the Devonian Botanic Garden, and facilitated by a scholar of writing and communication, you will have the opportunity to draft, enhance, and/or polish your grant proposal. Dr. Heather Graves has facilitated SSHRC grant writing workshops and is herself a SSHRC-funded scholar. The Devonian Botanic Gardens is located 30 minutes SW from downtown Edmonton. Registration to a maximum of 12 will be accepted until June 12th. Lunch will be provided each day.
