Congratulations!

The NRO would like to extend warm wishes and a sincere “congratulations” to IIQM’s Director, Amanda Shuya. Amanda is expecting! Baby is due to arrive on February 1, 2014, which means this little one will share a birthday with the likes of Boris Yeltsin, Clark Gable, Rick James, and… Pauly Shore!

We’re so happy for you, Amanda!


Discontinuation of the Planning Grant and Dissemination Events Programs after Fall 2013

Please note that the Planning Grant and Dissemination Events programs will no longer be offered after the Fall 2013 competition. CIHR recognizes the importance of planning and dissemination activities and will continue to support these activities after 2013 through the Institute of Community Support (ICS) Program.

University of Alberta applicants interested in submitting a Planning or Dissemination Events grant are encouraged to participate in a Grant Assist Program (Health Sciences) Internal Review.

Grant Assist Program (SSHRC) Offers Supports and Workshops for SSHRC Applicants

The Grant Assist Program (SSHRC) is an initiative of the Office of the Vice-President (Research). A range of supports and workshops are available to researchers applying to SSHRC.

  1. Internal Peer Review of SSHRC proposals by faculty who have adjudicated on SSHRC committees and have been SSHRC grant recipients. For more information, click HERE.
  2. Research Assistants: Two doctoral candidates will provide casual support to faculty members applying to SSHRC. The RAs can assist with time-bound tasks related to the preparation of a SSHRC Grant. To request Casual Research Assistant Support, click HERE.
  3. Professional Editing is available to faculty who are applying to SSHRC. Editing services are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information and to view the editor’s CV, click HERE.
  4. The Grant Assist Program (SSHRC) invites you to the following sessions:
    1. CCV Workshop for SSHRC IDG Applicants
      Date: August 23, 2013
      Time: 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

      Date: August 30, 2013
      Time: 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.

    3. SSHRC IDG Writing Club
      Dates: October 2, 11, 22; November 1, 12, 19
      Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

  5. Successful Grants Library houses SSHRC grants that have been funded in recent competitions. To view proposals and/or to contact SSHRC recipients, click HERE.
  6. Bridge Funding – Applicants who participate in internal peer review may be eligible for bridge funding if their SSHRC grant receives 4A assessment. The Grant Assist Program (SSHRC) also supports large-scale SSHRC grant development. For more information, click HERE.
  7. Resources regarding grant writing and SSHRC proposal development are available HERE.
  8. Micro-mentorship: one-on-one discussion about the direction of your research, refining your research question and/or methodology can help you as you prepare your research. To request a session, click HERE.

AIHS Announces October 2013 Postgraduate Fellowship Competition

Building on the success and development of the AIHS Training and Early Career Development Programs, I’m pleased to announce the October 2013 Postgraduate Fellowship competition.

AIHS is committed to investing in the development of highly skilled people and a high-quality workforce that is essential to transforming health and well-being through research and innovation.

The Postgraduate Fellowship provides the opportunity for individuals to pursue postgraduate health-related research at an Alberta university, while offering them the skills and training they need to advance their careers across a wide range of academic and non-academic sectors.

The application deadline for the October 2013 Postgraduate Fellowship competition is October 1, 2013 at 4:00 pm.
