Hold the Date: University of Alberta Cancer Research Initiative

(Posted on behalf of The Cancer Research Initiative Executive Committee: David Brindley, Deborah James, Charles Holmes, John Mackey and Sandy McEwan (Chair)).

Research in the field of cancer extends across many faculties and units within the University of Alberta.  An initiative is underway to assess the current extent of cancer research and education capabilities on campus and potentially to create a new academic cancer research institute that would promote interactions and collaborations among researchers whose research and/or educational interests are in the broad domain of cancer.

The vision of the institute is to assemble a world-class interactive and collaborative cancer research community, representing all cancer researchers located at the University of Alberta, the Cross Cancer Institute, and elsewhere throughout the health service facilities of Northern Alberta.

The new cancer institute would provide the structural organization needed to co-ordinate and enhance research and educational efforts aimed at creating knowledge and facilitating its dissemination and translation into improved care for cancer patients.  The new institute would also facilitate members’ access to existing and new research platforms and capabilities and would ultimately enhance research funding competitiveness.

As a first step in order to identify individuals with research and educational interests in cancer from across the university and associated hospitals a brief survey has been developed, which will take about 10 minutes to complete.

The committee asks that researchers, clinical investigators, and trainees with interests in cancer research and/or cancer education please respond to the survey provided in the link below.

A session will be hosted for individuals to learn about, and provide feedback on, the cancer research initiative as follows:

Date: Monday, January 27, 2014
Time: 3:00 PM – 4:00 p.m.
Location: Lecture Theater L1-490, Edmonton Clinic Health Academy (ECHA) Building

Please fill out the survey HERE.
