Become a WISEST Summer Research Program Supervisor
NOTE: If you are interested in becoming a WISEST supervisor, please contact Heather Boyco in the Nursing Research Office by Tuesday, April 15 (780.492.6832 or email@example.com).
WISEST invites you to spark the interest and enjoyment of science, engineering or technology in today’s youth. We would like you to consider becoming a Supervisor in the WISEST Summer Research Program. We ask you to share your passion for research and your scientific know-how with Grade 11 high-school students.
In the WISEST Summer Research Program, the students work for six continuous weeks as research assistants, supervised by a principal investigator or a research team member, on a research project in the lab or in the field. Young women participate in research within the science, engineering, and technology fields and the young men experience less-traditional research fields such as nursing, human ecology, or nutrition.
WISEST conducts extensive fundraising efforts to pay the students and though not necessary, financial contributions from research labs are welcome. We ask you to provide the students with a positive and supportive learning environment in which they can gain a practical insight to scientific research and build their enthusiasm for diverse fields of study. Meaningful exposure at this particular stage of high-school students’ education can have a critical, positive impact for upcoming academic choices and their long-term career goals.
