Your help is needed: University of Alberta hosting Canada’s First Falling Walls Lab

UAlberta was recently invited to host Canada’s first Falling Walls Lab 1 of only 20 international Labs (1 of 3 in North America—UCLA and McMaster also hosting).   This event is being driven by the Office of the VP Research and we need your help in two key areas:
  1. Promoting/communicating open call for applications – application deadline is August 25, 2014 – see below for more details.
  2. Identifying specific potential applicants – excellent and talented young researchers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and big thinkers with amazing ideas or research projects.  Specific focus is Masters and PhD students, Post Docs, and young innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and academics under 35.  Please send your suggestions to Mara.simmonds@ualberta.ca with FWLab in subject line.
Falling Walls is an exciting event and fabulous opportunity for both UAlberta (to showcase the talent, capacity, and capability resident here and showcase again on an international stage) and for participants:
  • They get a chance to share their idea/work with a distinguished panel of academics, successful entrepreneurs, business leaders, and a government representative.
  • They will also learn how to hone their pitching/marketing/communication skills via a Pitch Bootcamp with Randy Thompson, successful entrepreneur and venture capitalist, CEO of Canada’s most active Angel investor group and recently named Startup Canada’s Investor of the Year 2014 .
  • Get exposure to and receive valuable feedback from academic, business, entrepreneurial experts.
  • UAlberta Lab winner gets trip to Berlin and additional opportunity to share their idea on an international stage with 99 other young great thinkers/talents and attend Falling Walls Conference.
