This weeks’s bulletin lists the internal funding opportunities: NEW-Faculty of Nursing- International Nursing Scholar Series. There is also a reminder for previously posted internal funding opportunities: REMINDER– Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF).Please note: the internal faculty of nursing guidelines  for TLEF application are posted this time. The internal deadline for the application submission is also issued. International Nursing Scholar Series New!

Information: To provide funds to two Area of Excellence groups in the Faculty of Nursing to engage an internationally renowned scholar in nursing or health to foster scholarship, engagement, and mentorship within key communities in and across the Faculty of Nursing.

Value of Award: The Faculty of Nursing will provide two AoE groups with funds up to $5000.

Faculty of Nursing Postdoctoral Fellowship

Information: The Faculty of Nursing Postdoctoral Fellowship is intended to provide support to exceptional researchers pursuing post-graduate nursing research at the Faculty of Nursing, University of Alberta whose work advances the strategic priority areas of the Faculty of Nursing.

Value of Award: The amount for the fellowship is $75,000, tenable at the University of Alberta only. It has a term of 1-year and is intended for recent PhD graduates (within 5-years).For more information, please review the guidelines  and application form

CIHR-Catalyst Grant : Indigenous Approaches to Wellness Research New!

Information:  The aim of this Catalyst Grant is to provide seed money to support research activities related to Indigenous approaches to wellness which represent a first step towards the pursuit of more comprehensive funding opportunities (e.g., operating grants). This funding opportunity will fund researchers who, in collaboration with the Indigenous community, will develop, evaluate, and build on existing tools and methods to better incorporate Indigenous concepts of wellness in research designs. Respiratory Health Strategic Clinical Network 2017 Research and Innovation Seed Grants New!

Information: The Scientific Office of the Respiratory Health Strategic Clinical Network (RHSCN) will make up to three Research and Innovation Seed (RIS) Grants to support short-term, pilot research projects, student-initiated research, or research and innovation activities in the area of respiratory health. For this competition, the overarching goal of the RIS Grant is to support research that aligns with the RHSCN long-term Research and Innovation strategic goal of accelerating respiratory knowledge that has provincial impact on improving patient care. SAGE-Secondary Data Use Grant New!

Information:  SAGE, an initiative from PolicyWise for Children & Families(formerly ACCFCR) , is a data repository and research platform that enables the secondary use of data related to child and youth development, health, and well-being.

The purpose of SAGE’s Secondary Data Use Grant is to ensure that existing datasets can be fully utilized to generate new research findings and encourage new analytics methods. For more information on the datasets, application and guidelines, click here

Value of Award: The Secondary Data Use Grant provides five successful applicants $5000 to undertake research utilizing research datasets stored and managed by SAGE.

Vital Signs Grants for Social Inclusion New!

Information: This grant program will focus on:

  • Funding to support programs which will improve economic outcomes of newcomers, whether through English language programs, mentorship programs, programs which help newcomers have foreign credentials recognized, or other means.
  • Priority will be given to programs which have significant input by newcomers in program development and/or to programs focused on those newcomers who are most at risk for poverty, including women.
  • Priority may be given to proposals which:
    • Are creative, new, and/or enhancements or expansions of existing work with demonstrated success;
    • Are evidence-based and/or are based on a reasonable needs assessment;
    • Have a clear plan for evaluation and measurement of outcomes; and
    • Include collaborations with appropriate organizations.

Value of Award: up to $40,000 per year for 3 years.

Information: The purpose of this funding opportunity is to provide undergraduate and health professional students with opportunities to undertake health research projects with established investigators in an environment that provides strong mentorship. For more information click here
