Alberta New Investigator Award
Heart and Stroke Foundation
The Alberta New Investigator Award program will align application and peer review timing with the H&S National New Investigator Award program. The Alberta New Investigator Award Program launched in conjunction with the National New Investigator Award Program. Alberta applicants should be within start to 7 years of their first faculty appointment.
The Alberta New Investigator applicants who fall within start to 5 years of their first faculty appointment are also eligible to apply for the National New Investigator Competition (2018-2019) by using ONE Application Form. Applicants who fall within 6 to 7 years are eligible for the Alberta competition.

NIH Tobacco Regulatory Science Program (TRSP)
Located in the NIH Office of Disease Prevention (ODP), the Tobacco Regulatory Science Program (TRSP) coordinates the trans-NIH collaborative effort with the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) to conduct research to support its regulatory activities over tobacco products. Established in 2013 through an interagency partnership with the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products in 2012, TRSP coordinates the collaborative research effort across the NIH with the FDA CTP.

Saving Brains: Round 6
Do you have a bold idea to protect and nurture early child development?
Saving Brains has launched a new funding opportunity open to applicants in low- and middle-income countries and Canada.
With the ultimate goal of increasing human capital and tackling existing inequalities, Saving Brains seeks bold ideas for products, services and implementation models that protect and nurture early brain development in a sustainable manner. Successful proposals will be awarded seed grants of up to $250,000 CAD over a maximum of 24 months.
Funding is open to innovative solutions that address the risk factors facing children living in adversity by promoting health and nutrition, providing enrichment and nurturing, and protecting against maltreatment.
Areas of particular interest include innovations designed for use in humanitarian contexts and fragile settings, innovations that provide supports to adolescent parents, and innovations with demonstrated scale and strong paths to sustainability that have not yet measured impact on child development.

IHDCYH Talks Video Competition
The Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health (IHDCYH) is launching its fourth round of the IHDCYH Talks video competition. This is a unique opportunity to submit short videos (recommended maximum length of five minutes) that share evidence-based messages in the areas of maternal, reproductive, child and youth health. This competition encourages the production of videos that present a clear evidence-based message to a lay audience that is designed to have a positive impact on the health of children, youth and families.
This competition is soliciting videos not just from members of the research community, but also more widely from non-governmental or not-for-profit organizations (including community or charitable organizations), as well as members of the general public who are able to demonstrate a clear, evidence-based message related to IHDCYH’s mandate.
The total amount available for this funding opportunity is $5,500; enough to fund a first place prize of $3,000, one runner-up prize of $1,000 and two specially commended prizes of $750.

Networks of Centres of Excellence Program Competition
All potential applicants must indicate their intention to submit a Letter of Intent by August 23, 2017.
The Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) is pleased to announce the launch of a competition for NCE networks. The funding available is $75million over five years. Both new and established networks are eligible to apply for funding in this competition. By August 23, 2017, all potential applicants must indicate their intention to submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by email to info@nce-rce.gc.ca. The NCE secretariat will use this information to inform potential applicants of planned webinars.

A Message from CIHR:
Hello,
As members of health research community, we know the value of a good data set.
Canada’s health researchers have a valuable source of data with the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), a large, national research platform, which is a strategic initiative of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
The CLSA team is following 51,000 Canadians, aged 45 to 85 at recruitment, for 20 years. They are collecting data from participants on health status, physical assessments, diseases, cognition, psychological well-being and mental health, social well-being, economic aspects of aging, and blood-based biological markers.
The team has now completed baseline data collection. This rich data set is available for use by researchers working in all areas of health and psychosocial well-being. It may be of particular value to early career investigators and trainees.
We would be grateful for your help in promoting the awareness and use of CLSA data through your networks.
